Evening Gown: Skirt

The skirt is fully lined with cambric adding support to the lightweight silk. A small pocket has been added to the side front right side. It sits down about 4" from the waist and is placed in the seam of the silk and cut through the lining.

The skirt is pleated from the side back, and is cartridge pleated on both sides of the center back. The skirt trains slightly in the back. This may have been done at a later point in time since the center back of the skirt is pieced. The skirt is stitched to a muslin band and tacked onto the bodice.

The skirt has a unique lower edge. It is banded with a free form scalloped black moiré border. Braid finishes and enhances the scalloped edge. It is hand stitched to the lower edge of the skirt. The band is supported with a 2" footing. A black silk hem braid falls 1/2" from the hemmed edge of the band.
