
This brown silk day dress reflects the change in the cut and drape of the skirt which happened in the late 1860s. The dress reflects the fashionable cut of day dresses between 1865-1872. The details of the life of this dress are unknown. The only clue to its owner is in the inscription which is placed at the side back of the skirt. It reads:

No one shall open or inspect it but my own children."
