Day Dress: Bodice

The bodice of this day dress has two sets of closures. The cotton lining closes with hooks and eyes. The outer fabric of the bodice has working buttons with hand stitched buttonholes. The buttons were at some point set over 1/2" and some of the buttonholes reflect wear and the need for mending. The side seams appear untouched.

There are two small darts in the lining of back of the bodice. The only seams are on the outer fabric with the standard topstitched side back piece. Most of the seams are unfinished with the exception of the armscyes. The seams are strengthened with cording at the armscyes, neck and waistline. The front of the bodice is also darted, but they are not boned. The bodice is secured to the lining with the application of the trim. The slightly dropped shoulder line is accented with three rows of the satin bias and fringe. The line gently rounds to about six inches above the waist in the center back.
