Dry good stores were the supply centers for those traveling on the trails west. It is interesting to see how different women recorded the cost of fabric and trims as they came to California. These kinds of records may have been a way of keeping a record of the extra expenses or sharing information with others who would understand. Prices also give us a perception of value and the economics of supply and demand.
