Journal Writing

Be sure to give them time each day to write in their journals. Students seem to enjoy having soft, relaxing music playing while they are writing. Encourage your students to use the opposite page in their journal as a practice page for trying out some spellings of words. Also encourage them to keep a soundboard and an alphabet strip handy. You could make copies for them to keep in the front of their journals.
