Assessment

Each child who attends a reading program at the Center for Learning and Literacy participates in an initial screening. The goal of this informal assessment is to determine the functional and developmental levels of reading. Some of the informal assessment activities include word recognition, reading passages orally and silently, spelling, and writing. The results of the IRI help us determine appropriate recommendations for instruction and the best placement for the student in one of the tutorial or enrichment reading programs at the Center. Recommendations for activities at home supporting literacy are discussed with the parents.

Oral and written reports of the assessment are available to the parents. Fees for services are available by calling the Center for Learning and Literacy. Limited scholarships are available.

Assessments are conducted for anyone who experiences difficulties with reading, spelling, or writing. You may call the Center for more information or an appointment. College students may also assessed at the Center for Learning and Literacy.
