Choosing a Password

Choosing a password that is unique is important and like PIN numbers for bank accounts should be chosen with extreme care. Here are a few Do's and Don'ts that you should keep in mind when changing you password:

  • DO memorize your password
  • DON'T write it down for others to see
  • DO use a password that you can type quickly so that others can't see what you're typing
  • DON'T use any part of your name, even if it is the letters recombined. Also,
  • DON'T use a spouse's, child's or pet's name. The same goes for easily obtainable personal information such as your social security number or phone number.
  • DO choose a password with mixed-case alphabetics and/or non-alphabetics such as Ag;uIp4
  • DON'T use a password of all the same digits such as 888888 or all the same letters such as uuuuuu. Also, DON'T use a password that is shorter than six characters.
