University of Nevada, Reno::Intercultural Council

The Intercultural Collaborative, formed in the Fall of 2002, was reorganized into the Intercultural Council in the Fall of 2004. The objectives of this reorganization were to:

increase communication and information sharing among the various diversity
increase the opportunity for the committees to recognize their common concerns, interests and opportunities for mutual effort and support, and
better communicate consensus across the committees to the wider university

The Intercultural Council reports to the President through the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity. Representatives from the various diversity committees are joined by at-large members from the university community.

Mission

Enhance communication among the diversity committees and provide guidance to the university on a broad range of issues and concerns by identifying potential initiatives, projects, and programs that will improve intercultural relations at the university.

Goals

Identify projects, programs, initiatives and other strategies for building an inclusive university community by:
- improving campus climate
- enhancing the recruitment and retention of students and faculty
- strengthening inclusive curricular and co-curricular programs
- improving learning environments
- playing a central role in the dialogue that defines the meaning of an "includive community"

Provide and promote educational opportunities to the university community

Develop consensus among the various diversity committees for the implementation of major initiatives.

Recommend the implementation of campus-wide initiatives to the President.
