Taking Charge
Taking Charge is an ambitious new training program designed to teach people with chronic conditions like heart disease, diabetes and arthritis how to manage their conditions. Self-management is a key to living a healthy life.
Research shows that people who take this program — developed at Stanford University and taught worldwide — improve their healthful behaviors and decrease their days in the hospital. An early focus of the Nevada program will be on sight-robbing macular degeneration. How it works
Participants attend 2½-hour-long workshops one day a week for six weeks. The workshops are offered throughout the year at various locations in Nevada. Each workshop is facilitated by two trained leaders.
To participate
Anyone with a chronic condition or anyone who lives with a person with a chronic condition can participate in the workshops.
Anyone with an interest in teaching others to manage their conditions can participate in the leader training.
