Modeled after two national publications — Kids Count Data Book (The Annie E. Casey Foundation) and the Older Americans 2004: Key Indicators of Well-Being (Federal Interagency Forum on Aging Related Statistics) — Elders Count Nevada gathers demographic and health indicator information from a variety of national and state resources and brings them together in one format.
The project’s goal is to provide information and a decision-making tool for consumers, advocates, service providers, elected officials, federal and state organizations, media and educators. The hope is that the project will initiate action at the community, state and federal levels and inspire other states to create similar report cards. This would raise the visibility of the aging community and broaden public health literature.
Elders Count was funded by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and produced in partnership with the Sanford Center for Aging at the University of Nevada, Reno, the Nevada State Health Division and the Nevada Division for Aging Services.
