Senior Outreach Services Education Talk, April 2014
On April 8, 2014, Senior Outreach Services held one of many education talks of 2014 with Dr. John Yacenda. The talk focused on the topic of elder abuse and methods of preventing such abuse. He spoke specifically about his involvement in the Nevada Silver Haired Legislative Forum which proposes changes to the legislature based on the concerns of seniors. As part of the forum, Dr. Yacenda presented testimony to the Assembly Committee on Legislative Operations and Elections on financial and material exploitation of seniors. His speech also included advice for how to become involved in the forum.
The event started at 9:30a.m. with a small reception where attendees could enjoy coffe, tea, food, and conversation with other individuals attending the talk. The lecture started at 10a.m. in the Laxalt Auditorium which is located in the Nelson Building. At the end of the speech, attendees were encouraged to ask questions to gain better insight into the topic. This event was part of a series of talks that SOS puts on each year to inform their seniors and volunteers about issues relevant to seniors today.
The talk lasted for about an hour with more than 100 people in attendence.
