Sanford Center for Aging celebrates Scholars in Aging!

On April 28, 2014, the Gerontology Academic Program at the University of Nevada, Reno honored scholarship recipients, graduates, and fellows in the field of aging. Students were encouraged to share their research in poster presentations that were dispersed throughout the Center for Molecular Medicine. Guests were then invited to join a drumming circle to simulate research conducted by the Sanford Center's own Emily Correa. The circle demonstrated the psychological effects that drumming can have on individuals as a form of therapy.

The event culminated in a ceremony to honor the students in attendance. The presentation began with comments from Dr. Peter Reed, Director of the Sanford Center for Aging and Dr. Thomas Schwenk, the Dean of the School of Medicine. Awards were given to GAP graduates with a minor or certificate, Division of Geriatric Medicine Graduates, Scholars in Health Literacy, and graduate and undergraduate scholarship recipients.
