eSirus Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sign in to eSirius? Or sign in my Assistant?
To access eSirius you would send an email to pkentner@unr.edu requesting that you (or you and your assistant) would like to submit a protocol. You need to be a faculty member in order to be listed as a Principal Investigator this means if you are a Student you will need a sponsor.
How do I start a new protocol?
If you are a new investigator you start by clicking the link that says 'Submit an application for a new protocol'. (All eSirius links will be underlined, if an item is underlined in all probability you will need to click on it and supply some information before it will allow you to continue).
Why am I having problems finding the drug, surgery, euthanasia sections?
If you do not check the appropriate section in the species information area you will not get these sections of the protocol. eSirius is question driven which means you must respond yes to euthanasia even if you are not planning on euthanizing the animals in order to get the section for emergency contingency information.
How do I submit an amendment to an existing protocol?
When you click on the amendment link you will get a choice of your existing protocols. After choosing the one you wish to amend, adding your intended amendment in the reason/justification section it will give you list of protocol sections, be sure and amend all that apply (for example if you are adding numbers, you need to add them under species info and USDA category, you will also need to fill in the numbers justification section).
My species/drug/etc. isn't on the drop down list?
If you need a species, drug, etc. added to the list contact pkentner@unr.edu .
Why can't I submit my protocol/amendment?
Usually if you are having problems submitting your protocol you either need to finish a section (check the links in an amendment) or you are not the principal investigator. All of the categories on the left side of your screen need to be green with the exception of the training section. If you are doing a protocol for an investigator when you hit submit it will go to them not the IACUC they will need to do the final submission.
Why am I getting emails from eSirius?
Emails usually indicate that you need to do something. It could mean you have an annual/denovo review due. Maybe you need to do revisions to your amendment/protocol you submitted. You should check eSirius whenever you receive an email as that usually indicates an action on your part.
Why isn't my protocol/amendment approved yet?
Have you answered all of the questions asked by the IACUC? Has all of your personnel done the online training and sent in their occupational health forms?
Hopefully this will answer most of your questions if you need further assistance contact Pam Kentner at pkentner@unr.edu or phone 784-4874.
