85. Department of Justice Regulations (DoJ) (28 CFR Parts 22 and 46)
Research funded through the DoJ, including the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) must comply with the Common Rule (under 28 CFR 46) and DoJ and NIJ regulations related to the following:
- additional protections for individual privacy and data confidentiality, and
- additional requirements for providing research data to NIJ.
The NIJ strongly encourages investigators submitting applications for NIJ funding to include the form "Protection of Human Subjects Assurance Identification/IRB Certification/Declarations of Exemption." Instructions and a link to the form are available on the Human Subjects Protection pages of the NIJ website.
NOTE: Additional regulations apply to research involving the Bureau of Prisons; currently such research is not conducted at the University. University and affiliate investigators wishing to conduct research involving the Bureau of Prisons are advised to contact the RIO to discuss the planned research. At that time, the University IRB will develop the necessary policies to allow such research to occur.
