Here are just a few reasons why you should apply to the UNR Behavior Analysis Program.

  • The University of Nevada, Reno Behavior Analysis Program is unique because it offers training in philosophy, basic experimental work, and applied behavior analysis. No other program takes such a comprehensive view.
  • The quality of our program is recognized by those in the field, which means our alumni have little difficulty finding employment after graduation.
  • Our faculty are leaders and experts not only in the field of Behavior Analysis but also in their particular areas of interest and application. All of our faculty hold leadership positions in various behavioral organizations.
  • The diversity of research interests between our faculty ensures that you will almost always be able to match your interests. Our faculty’s interests span anywhere from philosophical and theoretical analyses, through controlled experimental analysis of behavior to a wide array of applications to society and its many issues.
  • The financial survival of our program depends on the students and faculty cooperating with one another and therefore our community of students and faculty make it a point to maintain a harmonious environment. We are a tight group socially and value cooperation over competition.
  • The University of Nevada, Reno Behavior Analysis Program is significantly funded through our self-capitalization efforts. In addition to their course loads, and research, each faculty member is responsible for overseeing entrepreneurial projects that raise captial to help pay for student's tuition and salaries as well as up to 50% of faculty salaries. Students work in these projects which are valuable training opportunities to develop skills that will assist them in future careers. Examples of some of the Program's projects include the Early Childhood Autism Program, Person-centered Assessment Training and Habilitation (P.A.T.H.), Satellite Programs in Behavior Analysis, an the High Sierra-BECS Autism project, The BECS-staff training and agency consultation project, or several other consultation projects in schools and the community. The financial support of students each year is dependent on the success of our entrepreneurial projects. The Program uses an open-book accounting system and students are encouraged to take an active interest and rle in the managerial and financial aspects of hte projects they work in. Funding is not guaranteed, however, in the recent past, funding for students has not been given. Upon entering the Program, students are typically assigned stipend placements in their mentor's projects for 20 hours a week or if aranged, in another of the Program's various entrepreneurial projects

Doctoral Program Student Handbook

Masters Program Student Handbook

We seek students committed to a behavioral orientation in psychology, who show research and scholarly potential, and who show potential as teachers, scientists, and practitioners.  We value ability and accomplishment in our selection process and in our continuing support for our students.  We believe students learn a great deal from each other.  Consequently, we seek a heterogeneous student population. Notwithstanding these values, all students are accepted directly into one of our faculty lab groups under the mentorship of that faculty member. Therefore, it is mandatory that applicants rank order the lab groups they are applying to and prepare their application letter and references accordingly.
