The University has served the state of Nevada since 1874, first from Elko, then from Reno. Through time, the University of Nevada, Reno has evolved to become a comprehensive institution of higher education for learning, discovery, and community engagement across the full range of academic disciplines. The University regularly engages in strategic planning and program review in order to meet future needs in instruction, research, and community outreach. Planning and review occurs at department, college, and the university level. Every six years, the University presents a new strategic plan to the Nevada System of Higher Education.
