The EZQ Protein Assay from Invitrogen is used to assay the protein concentration of samples in rehydration buffer just before they are applied to IPG strips. The EZQ method is a fluorescent assay that is very sensitive, uses uses only 4 µl of sample and is not affected by the presence of detergents, reducing agents or chaotropes. Knowledge of the protein concentration in the sample allows us to apply the optimum amount of protein for the best 2-D gel results and to normalize the amount of protein applied for each member of a set of samples.
