Instrumentation: 2-D Gel Analysis

Isoelectric Focusing Apparatus:

  • 2 Bio-Rad Protean IEF Cells for isoelectric focusing of 1-12 IPG strips from 7 to 24 cm in length
  • A newly acquired Bio-Rad i12 IEF cell which independently controls the voltage of each IPG strip.  This cell can also focus 1-12 IPG strips with lengths varying between 7 and 24 cm.
  • MicroRotofor (Bio-Rad) for in-solution isoelectric focusing

Electrophoresis and Blotting Apparatus: (all from Bio-Rad)

  • 2 Criterion electrophoresis cells (Bio-Rad) capable of running 1-2 or 3-12 Criterion (13.3 x 8.7 cm) gels
  • 2 Protean II cells (Bio-Rad) for running 1-2 or 3-6 Protean II XL (18.3 x 19.3 cm) gels
  • 1 Protean Plus cell (Bio-Rad) capable of running 1-12 Protean Plus (25.6 x 23.0 cm) gels
  • HPE FlatTop Tower (Gel Company) for horizontal running of plastic-backed gels
  • Trans-Blot Electrophoretic Transfer Cell for blotting of 3 Protean Plus, 3 Protean II or 12 Criterion gels

Imagers:

  • Bio-Rad ChemiDoc MP for imaging of gels or blots stained with colorimetric, fluorescent or chemiluminescent stains
  • Typhoon Trio (GE Healthcare) for imaging DIGE gels or other fluorescent or chemiluminescent gels or blots.  Radioactivity on a gel or blot may be detected using a phosphor screen.

Software:

  • Quantity One and Image Lab (Bio-Rad) for analysis of 1-D gels
  • PDQuest v 8.0.1 for analysis of standard 2-D gels
  • DeCyder v 7 (GE Healthcare) for analysis of DIGE gels

Spot Cutters:

  • ExQuest (Bio-Rad)
  • ProPrep II (Digilab, for DIGE gels)
