Ethnic Studies
Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary program available as a minor for students at the University of Nevada, Reno. A minor in ethnic studies is offered through the collaboration of several departments under the direction of the Ethnic Studies Board. Faculty involved in the Ethnic Studies Program come from several disciplines. The focus of the Program is interdisciplinary, designed to address different perspectives and areas of knowledge and, as such, support both breadth and depth of curriculum and scholarship.
The program is designed to:
- increase student’s awareness of ethnic and racial issues
- examine the experiences and contributions of a wide range of people, societies, and cultures
- addresses the characteristics, issues, and effects of racism
- allow for a focus on issues of ethnicity and race, either domestically or globally
