Department of History

The Department of History at the University of Nevada, Reno offers graduate programs of study leading to either the M.A., the M.A.T., or the Ph.D. degrees in History. These programs are intended to prepare graduate students for productive research, effective teaching, and independent reading and scholarship. The M.A.T. in History program is designed primarily for elementary and secondary teachers of history and social studies. The M.A.T. degree does not, however, lead to a Nevada public schools teaching certificate for grades K-12; such certification is available only through the College of Education. Most students in the M.A.T. program already have received this certification.
