Resource Economics

NOTE: The University of Nevada, Reno offers different economics degrees from two different departments: the Department of Economics in the College of Business and the Department of Resource Economics in the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources. The business college offers both Master of Arts and Master of Science degrees and the agriculture college offers both a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees.

Prospective graduate students with interests in econometrics, environmental valuation, public lands management, natural resource and environmental policy analysis, water resource economics, environmental risk management, multiple uses of public lands and other related topics will find coursework and ongoing research programs at the Department to provide for an intellectually challenging and professionally fulfilling environment. The majority of our graduate students are granted graduate assistantships and/or tuition waivers. The assistantships provide students with opportunities to work closely with faculty on on-going research. The departmental atmosphere is very collegial, and faculty are readily accessible for academic discussion and advising. The faculty’s main research fields of interest are: Natural Resources and Environment, policy analysis, public lands management, recreational use of public land, water allocation and management, forest management, wilderness conservation, urban forestry, valuation of environmental resources and services, applied econometrics, wildlife and society conflicts, multiple use management of rangelands, Rural Community Development and Agribusiness, farm and ranch management, economics of invasive species, Integrated Pest Management, trade and agriculture, production economics, quantitative analysis of agribusiness, and regional economic analysis.
