Gerontology

Gerontology is the study of aging. Adults over 65 currently constitute the fastest growing segment of the American population. In just a few years, they will be joined by 75,000,000 Baby Boomers entering retirement. By 2030, the older population is expected to double. Regardless of your major, people who are older will be part of your career and your life. The demographic trends are even more pronounced in Nevada due to high in-migration of recent retirees. The growing number of these individuals will impact the economy, the health care system, and, most importantly, the job market. In response to this challenging societal change, the Gerontology Academic Program prepares student scholars from a variety of disciplines to provide the highest quality of service to society's elder population.
