Jane Tors was appointed Special Assistant to the President for Media Relations in June 2008. She had previously served as the University's Executive Director of Communications from 2005-2008. Reporting directly to the president, she oversees all aspects of media relations for the University, including serving as chief spokesperson for the University, and in providing information about the University's policies, actions, activities and achievements.

Tors has more than 25 years of public relations experience and is accredited in public relations (APR) by the national Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Prior to joining the University, Tors spent a year as public relations director for an advertising and public relations agency in Reno. Prior to that, she spent 10 years with Washoe Health System and Washoe Medical Center, northern Nevada's largest healthcare organization, where she served as communications director and was named Management Employee of the Year. She also spent nearly 10 years with Harrah's, and served as internal communications manager and publicist for the Reno hotel-casino.

Tors is a University of Nevada, Reno graduate, receiving her degree in journalism. She is a former board member and president of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the PRSA, and also served as a board member of PRSA's North Pacific District. She is a recipient of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of PRSA's Mark Curtis Award, honoring the chapter member of the year, and was named to the chapter's Hall of Fame. She has served on the University's Reynolds School of Journalism Advisory Council, on the Nevada Women's Fund Board of Directors, and as public relations chair for the 2009 International Science and Engineering Fair host city organization, Gathering Genius. She has contributed her time and counsel to many other organizations, including Partners in Education and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.
