Description:
This course will both explore the story of modern art and
examine philosophical issues arising from art in general, which include: the
nature of pictorial representation (and how pictures are possible), the ethical
and cognitive implications of art, whether there is an "aesthetic emotion," the
relationship of painting to other art forms, and whether art requires a theory
of art for us to understand it.
