CLAGS (College of Liberal Arts Graduate Student Symposium) will be held on February 20-21, 2014. CLAGS is currently calling for the submission of papers on "Constructing the World". The early submission period ends October 30, 2013, and the deadline for all proposals is November 30, 2013. For more information on CLAGS, please see the attached flyer. February 9, 2010 -- Deborah Achenberg, who is an associate professor of philosophy and chair of the Department of Philosophy, spoke out about university budget cuts at a recent town hall meeting. November 24, 2009 -- Tom Nickles, who is a professor in the Department of Philosophy, has been named Nevada Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and its partner in the awards program, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
Jackie L. Leonard, who is a major donor for the Department of Philosophy, received the Distinguished Alumna Award from the College of Liberal Arts.
October 5, 2009 -- Professor Gary Cage, who teaches World Religions for the Department of Philosophy at UNR, was the first speaker of the semester for the Sustainable Energy Forum, an Associated Students of the University of Nevada-recognized student organization. Cage focused his lecture on the role religion can play in environmental and energy concerns. Read more...
May 5, 2008 -- Ken Lucey, Professor in the Department of Philosophy, received the Sanford Distinguished Professor of the Humanities Award for 2008-2010.
Chris Williams, associate professor in the Department of Philosophy received the College of Liberal Arts' Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Member of the Continuing Faculty.
May 17, 2006 -- Tom Nickles, Professor in the Department of Philosophy received the Regents' Teaching Award at the Honor the Best Ceremony.
Tom Nickles to be Joseph N. Crowley Distinguished Professor of the Humanities for 2005-2007.

December 5, 2011: Max Alderman, philosophy and political science dual major, is the first UNR recipient of the Marshall Scholarship. The Marshall Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships awarded to undergraduates seeking to pursue postgraduate degrees. Read more....

December 2, 2011: Ivon Padilla-Rodriguez wins $100,000 at the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. Ivon is a History and English dual major who is also minoring in the Department of Philosophy Department's new Ethics, Law, and Politics program. Read more...

October 25, 2011: MA student Raymond E. Avansino launches the Graduate Philosophy Association with official recognition from the Graduate Student Association of the University of Nevada, Reno, October 25, 2011. The newly formed Graduate Philosophy Association (GPA) is designed to be the graduate student extension of the department. The GPA will focus on serving as a source for graduate student colloquia, sponsoring lecture events and receptions on behalf of graduate students. Such focus will provide the opportunity for academic and professional development beyond the classroom while in the department as a graduate student. Formal events and schedule coming soon.
