Professor Margalit is George F. Kennan Professor at Princeton University (Institute for Advanced Studies) and Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. One of the leading thinkers of our time, he has written extensively on contemporary moral issues and the problems facing Western societies, and has had a special interest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and, more generally, the struggles between Islam and the West. His books include
The Decent Society (1992),
The Ethics of Memory (2002), and
On Compromise and Rotten Compromises (2009). A frequent contributor to the
New York Review of Books, he has given the Tanner Lectures at Stanford (2005) and received the Israel Prize in Philosophy (2010).
