Cayuse Proposal Development System

The University has been working hard to provide a user-friendly proposal preparation and routing tool that is compatible with the new federal grants.gov submission system for externally funded grants and contracts. We have recently selected a company-hosted solution called Cayuse 424 that will allow us to quickly launch a system-to-system solution with minimal overhead support. It is web-based and will use individuals' current UNR system ID and login information to access the system.

We anticipate implementation to take approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Sponsored Projects initial project kick-off meeting is scheduled for tomorrow. Sponsored Projects will be rolling out training on the Cayuse system within the next two months. The web-based solution will allow for the preparation of budgets and proposals, and internal electronic routing of proposals to deans/chairs/directors thereby replacing the OSPA-1 transmittal form and hard signatures for those who utilize Cayuse. The OSPA-2 form will also be part of the Cayuse system. The system will streamline the federal application process through grants.gov. An additional benefit is that Cayuse performs pre-validation checks for a number of federal agencies’ submission rules including NIH, NSF, DOE, and USDA, so, you will know up front at the submission stage whether there are any technical errors within the proposal that would prevent the submission from being successful.

Cayuse securely stores proposals so replication for future revised submissions and/or submissions to multiple sponsors will become much easier and quicker to complete. It also has a budget module that will auto-calculate fringe and f&a rates for the projects budgetary needs.

Individuals working on proposals with subcontractors will need to contact OSPA ahead of time to make sure that the subcontracting entities have profiles within the new system.

You will be hearing more from our office about this new improvement to proposal services as additional information becomes available. Please share this information with others who might have a need to know about this new upcoming upgrade.
