Opportunities: Reviewing and Mentoring
Principles
of Democracy Primer
The United States Department of State Bureau of International
Information Programs (IIP) seeks expert reviewers for a new
series of one-page primers entitled “Principles
of Democracy.” Reviewers are asked to provide feedback
on drafts covering basic tenets of democracy such as Rule
of Law, Free Press, and Human Rights. Primers are each approximately
400 words in length, are designed for broad readability, and
will be made available globally via IIP’s
website and as Adobe Acrobat downloads (U.S. law prohibits
distribution of these materials to domestic audiences). If
you would like to serve as a reviewer, please contact IIP
at iiptcp@state.gov
or contact Mark Betka at 202-619-4176.
APSA
Task Force on Mentoring
APSA
recognizes the importance of mentoring for effective career
development and professional integration. To this end, the
APSA
Task Force on Mentoring has developed a Mentor
Database to connect interested graduate students and faculty
with political scientists in the field who are available for
mentorship to counsel on matters of the profession. Information
on political scientists willing to act as mentors is stored
in the database. Individuals seeking a mentor can contact
APSA to receive a report listing available mentors, contact
information, a short biography, and topics on which the mentor
has specialized experience to provide advice.
If you are willing to serve as a mentor, download the mentor
information form from this webpage
and email it to our general email at mentoring@apsanet.org.
If you're interested in finding a mentor, simply send an email
to mentoring@apsanet.org
requesting a report on the available mentors in the APSA Mentor
Database. You will need to note the type of mentorship you'd
prefer, as well as any topic areas (listed on the webpage)
in which you might require specialized knowledge. Once you
receive the report listing mentors who correspond to the criteria
you provide, we will ask you to select and contact a mentor
who meets your needs.
