Political Stability and Change - Do the Media Matter?

This panel discusses the ways in which the news media contribute to political stability and change based on research in various countries. The papers provide a discussion of developments in political and media systems in the countries on which they report, and report findings from content analysis from recent election campaigns. The panel therefore focuses on the topic of political stability and change from the perspective of what goes into the news, to emphasize the importance of the political and economic circumstances within which the news is made. The four papers will contribute to a discussion of newsmaking and news content from a cross-national perspective on the political, economic and organizational influences on election news.
