What is an Ombudsman?
The term OMBUDSMAN originated in Sweden and dates back to 1809. The term was first used as a public office in Sweden. The term applied to a public official appointed to resolve problems and represent the rights of citizens by investigating and addressing complaints. According to one scholar, the term refers to “a person who has an ear to the people.”
