Sally Zanjani Wins
National Award


The “Laura” award for the best short story in 2013 on a Western woman was announced by women Writing the West at their annual meeting. Sally Zanjani is the first Nevada author to win this nationwide competition.

The winning short story is entitled “Another Life.” Sally mentioned that this story was inspired by Ferminia Sarras, a successful copper miner in Esmeralda and Mineral Counties. Ferminia’s biography is on the NWHP website at this link: http://www.unr.edu/nwhp/bios/women/sarras.htm
