The big power of going small

Mechanical Engineering Professor Kam Leang's work might have trouble fitting into the palm of your hand. But that's as small as it ever gets. Leang's research has Super-Size implications.

Leang is spearheading the University's efforts to develop the next generation of the world's unmanned autonomous systems.

One example is the "micro quadcopter" he is developing. Smaller than most new-born puppies, this lightweight, nimble unmanned autonomous system could one day fly into major storms and wildland fires, revolutionizing how scientists gather data and monitor threats from these 21st century environmental realities.
