The University of Nevada, Reno Office of Admissions and the Division of Health Sciences Student Center at the University of Nevada, Reno coordinates the processing of applications for admission to the Orvis School of Nursing. The Orvis School of Nursing coordinates the admissions process once a student has been verified for application to the nursing major. This process includes evaluating applications to the nursing major and all activities related to the admissions process.
The Orvis School of Nursing encourages applicants of both genders and from all socioeconomic, racial, age groups, religious, and educational backgrounds.
Admitting criteria is subject to change. It is the applicant's responsibility to review the criteria on a regular basis.
Potential applicants for the nursing program are strongly encouraged to speak to their academic advisor to discuss the application and admissions process.
The following information is provided to assist students in the application process. The criteria below are effective March 19, 2012:
Applicants to the nursing major must be officially admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno as a pre-nursing major for the current semester. Students who are not currently enrolled will need to reapply. Application fee may apply. Students who apply to the University of Nevada, Reno must submit official transcripts. Transcripts from ALL previous schools or institutions must be submitted to the Office of Admissions. Applications to the University and transcript evaluations cannot be rushed to meet the nursing application deadline. Please plan ahead.
Applicants are initially evaluated on the basis of academic performance. Academic performance is based on the calculated grade point average of selected prerequisite courses (see BSN Pre-Requisite Summary-DOC).
Effective December 1, 2014
Class Repeat Policy: The grades for the first two enrollment attempts will be averaged for the undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing major admission application. Any prerequisite required for the Nursing major application is subject to this policy. Students can enroll a multitude of times to better comprehend the class content, yet ONLY the first two enrollments will be used to calculate the prerequisite GPA for admission.
If a grade of "W" (withdrawal) is recorded, this counts as an attempt. Therefore, the next enrollment's earned grade will be used for the GPA calculator. If there is no grade in the first two enrollment attempts, the student is not eligible to apply to the major.
All prerequisite courses must be a grade of "C" or better for the nursing major application. This includes the averaged enrollments. Each of the grades from the first two enrollments will be averaged.
