Western Shoshone Life in the Summertime

They returned to the mountain summer camps. They fished for mountain trout and salmon with conical willows traps, nets, and spears. Hunting for bighorn sheep and deer were also done at this time of the year with the help of animal disguises and spiritual charms. Poisoned arrows or spears helped to bring down the bigger game animals.

They gathered wild rye grasses, wintergreen, wild strawberries, gooseberries, water lilies, and sunflower seeds to eat. Lupines, wild roses, and wild iris were used for medicinal purposes.
