Nevada Faculty Alliance

The following part-time membership policy encompasses five areas of membership affecting those who join NFA under the part-time category of less than 0.5 FTE.

I. Dues
Dues are set at $45 per year, payable by check once a year at the time of application for membership and each year thereafter.

II. Benefits
Part-time member benefits include the following:

i. Subscription to Academe, Bi-monthly bulletin of AAUP
ii. The Alliance, the AAUP award-winning newspaper of NFA
iii. Chapter newsletter, published periodically
iv. NFA Lobbying efforts on behalf of part-time faculty
v. Committee A assistance in personnel matters

III. Voting rights
Part-time members have full voting rights to participate in voting at chapter and state level elections. Part-time members also have the right to elect a representative of their choosing to their local chapter executive board. There is one at-large part-time representative on the state board.

IV. Holding office
In compliance with the provisions of NFA state and chapter bylaws, holding state- or chapter-level office is restricted to full-time active members of NFA at or below the rank of department chair. However, part-time members can hold office as part-time representative to the chapter and state board and can be appointed by the chapter president or the chapter executive board to serve on various committees at the chapter level, especially committees that advocate the interests of part-time faculty.

V. Legal Defense
Part-time members receive assistance on personnel matters through NFA's Committee A structure at the chapter level. However, there is no legal defense coverage for individual part-time members. The NFA, at its discretion, can take up cases that it deems to be in the best interests of its members and reserves the right to litigate on behalf of its members, regardless of membership status.
