Nevada Faculty Alliance

NFA Political Action Committee

The NFA maintains a registered Political Action Committee (PAC) in order to interview and endorse candidates supportive of higher education in Nevada. Members have the option of contributing $2/mo. to a fund which is used to offer modest campaign contributions to those known to be strong supporters of higher education.

Every two years, NFA members are asked to contribute concerns and questions which need to be posed to candidates for Board of Regents, State Assembly, State Senate, and (when applicable) the Governor's and Lt. Governor's offices. Committees are formed in both ends of the state, a final questionnaire is compiled, and volunteer faculty from all campuses then make up interviewing committees to both educate candidates about our concerns, and to then make recommendations about possible endorsements to the State PAC Board. That Board then decides on endorsements and, where possible, contributes some funds to campaigns. Over the years since NFA began this activity, it has been possible to support very capable people, and at the same time to establish a channel for communicating the faculty's views on problems to candidates and thus to political campaigns.
