This is our cutdown mechanism.  Originally it was operated off of a basic stamp used for timing.  It initiated to separate to two cut down coils.  First a top coil then a bottom coil.  Our mechanism is made similar to the EOSS cut down mechanism.  We use a DTMF activation after testing the system with a timer.  We felt that we wanted to get a reliable cut down working before we incorporated the problem of radio reception.  If we lose reception our balloon will still come back down close instead of going higher than we'd like.

 

Note:  We no longer use this.  We designed a system that combined the secondary communication module and the cutdown system so that we could cutdown on weight and use one less radio.
