We switched to this antenna on one of the chase vehicles after poor results with the RadioShack CB Antenna.  This has worked well.  We were getting very clear signals from our balloon 20 mi away and at an elevation over 20,000 ft. We tend not use this antenna much just because it's so long (hard to transport). Additionally, we have found that the high gain actually can be bad when the balloon is straight overhead. We currently use the SBB-5 almost exclusively for all chase vehicles.
