Missions

The ballast is a boxed payload of some determined weight.  This may seem like just a waste of helium, but it has it's uses.

• It allows you to increase your descent rate without including more expensive electronics.
• If you are just starting and flying light payloads.  The ballast can mimic the weight of everything you plan to fly to allow you to select the appropriate parachute size.

Our ballast is made of foam core and sand weighed out to bring the total mass lifted by the balloon up to where we want it.  Make sure you don't exceed the size to weight restrictions found in CFR section 101.
