The University of Nevada, Reno has again ranked in the top tier of "best national universities" by U.S. News & World Report, in addition to being cited as one of the nation's fastest growing flagship universities according to a Washington Post analysis.

"Our institution continues to have a major impact on the lives of our students, the state that we serve and the future that we are all working together to realize," University President Marc Johnson said. "For the seventh consecutive year, our ranking makes an important statement about our number of graduates; growth in the diversity of our student body; faculty achievement and productivity which demonstrates, on a regional, national and worldwide scale, why we are a quality, high-impact research University."  

U.S. News defines schools in the "best national universities" category as offering a full range of undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees and placing a strong emphasis on research. The University of Nevada, Reno ranked No. 197 among national universities.  

Measures contributing to the U.S. News' 2017 rankings, released Sept. 13, 2016, include graduation rate performance, faculty resources, student selectivity and preparedness, financial resources, alumni giving, reputation based on input of high-school counselors and a peer-assessment survey with university leaders nationally. The data for the 2017 edition of Best Colleges was gathered in spring and summer 2016.  

In addition to the University's overall ranking, the College of Engineering and the College of Business are again ranked among the "best colleges" in this year's survey of undergraduate programs.   

In the category of "best colleges" for undergraduate engineering programs, the College of Engineering is ranked No. 151 and, as a "best grad school" ranked No. 133. To be ranked, the highest degree awarded must be a doctoral degree and the college must have at least one accredited program by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.  

The University's College of Business is ranked No. 248 in the category of "best colleges" for its undergraduate business programs. To be ranked, the college or program must be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  

Four schools had a strong showing in the annual rankings of the best graduate programs by U.S. News- the College of Engineering, College of Education, University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and Orvis School of Nursing - and an additional 18 program areas were ranked among the nation's best.  

The Washington Post ranks the University of Nevada, Reno as one of the fastest-growing flagship universities in the nation in undergraduate enrollment, based on analysis of federal data for fall 2013 enrollment. Schools are ranked in order of percentage growth since fall 2000.
