TEDxUniversityofNevada tickets on sale

The premier event boasts a line-up filled with dynamic speakers and performers

Tickets are on sale for TEDxUniversityofNevada, set for Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017. Cost is $100 and includes more than 15 TEDx talks, five performances, a boxed lunch and refreshments. Student ticket cost is $30 with a valid student ID from an area school.

New this year, the event will move to the Grand Theatre at the Grand Sierra Resort. The 2,700-seat theatre is a natural fit for the event. After selling out the 1,200-seat Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts last year, the new venue will offer even more people the opportunity to share in a meaningful TEDx experience and will foster a more diverse audience.

Speakers include a wide mix of backgrounds, expertise and genres. This year, the event has seven local speakers, 10 non-local speakers and five performers. Country music singer CAM, O.A.R. lead singer Marc Roberge, The Warning, Neon Trees' Tyler Glenn and comedian Michael Jr. will perform. Speakers include Executive Vice President of Strategy for Switch Adam Kramer, internationally recognized models Iskra Lawrence and Ebonee Davis, University of Nevada, Reno faculty members Albert Lee, Ashley Greenwald Tragash and Vanessa Vancour, and many more.

With more than 9.2 million views to date, Logan LaPlante's TEDxUniversityofNevada video on Hackschooling has become one of the most popular talks ever uploaded to the TEDx YouTube channel. Also this year, TED.com picked up TEDxUniversityofNevada speaker David Burkus's talk on salary transparency. The video was posted online in mid-September and has already seen more than 1 million views.

"We're doing everything we can to ensure our speakers are well prepared for 2017 and to make sure 2017 will offer our best event and most powerful talks yet," Bret Simmons, TEDxUniversityofNevada curator, said. "Our goal of bringing the University out into the community has been realized through this event and we couldn't be more excited for this year's program."
