Nevada Industry Excellence was named the 2016 Community Partner at the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada's 5th Annual Existing Industry Awards event Oct. 13, 2016.

"Even more rewarding for us was to see many of our manufacturing clients nominated and awarded throughout the evening," Sandy Haslem, NVIE director, said.

Part of a national network of Manufacturing Extension Partnerships through the National Institute of Standards and Technology, NVIE helps small and medium-sized companies in some of Nevada's most important industries: manufacturing, mining and construction. NVIE is a statewide resource hosted through the University of Nevada, Reno and supported by a number of education- and industry-partner organizations from across the state.

"Nevada Industry Excellence helps businesses meet their goals related to operational excellence, business growth and workforce strategies. Companies engage NVIE for fee-for-service, on-site consulting and hands-on implementation assistance," Haslem explained.

A recent economic-impact study showed partnership efforts between NVIE and businesses in Nevada over a five-year period resulted in $2.2 billion in output, the creation or retention of more than 8,400 jobs and more than $182 million in new federal and state tax revenue. These economic outputs achieved from 2010 to 2014 were determined by the University of Nevada, Reno's Center for Economic Development using the modeling program IMPLAN to calculate the multiplier effect of economic development.

"Collaboration and partnership are part of the DNA of NVIE," Marc Johnson, University of Nevada, Reno president, said. "The NVIE team is making a real difference for businesses across Nevada, and they are deserving of this honor."

EDAWN's Existing Industry Awards recognize the investment, commitment and contributions of companies and organizations to the region's economic vitality. The event recognized more than 50 nominees and NVIE's Community Partner award was one of 15 category awards presented.
