Painter consistently goes extra mile in her work

Becky Yazzie, Painter in the Facilities Maintenance Paint Shop, has been named the August Employee of the Month by the Staff Employees Council.

Yazzie, according to nominator Lee Green, began her career at the University more than two decades ago.

"Becky is a UNR success story," Green wrote. "She began her career here 23 years ago after graduation from Job Corps. She started working at the University Inn where her former boss Sean said, 'What I can honestly say is, well, Becky is just wonderful. She can always make your day a little brighter with her smile and happy laugh.'"

For the past several years, Yazzie has been a valued member of the Paint Shop.

"Becky leads by example," the nomination letter read. "She is a very productive employee who does excellent work and always completes her projects in a timely manner. Becky possesses a strong work ethic and takes her job seriously. She approaches all of her projects with a positive attitude.

"Becky consistently goes the extra mile in her work. She will go out of her way to assist co-workers and customers."

Yazzie, according to the nomination letter, "has a large sense of pride in UNR and the contribution her painting skills make to improve the environment here on campus. She understands the importance of simple things such as a well-painted crosswalk or freshly painted fire hydrant make. She gets excited about making this a better place."

Yazzie is "so dedicated and her sense of responsibility is so strong" that she "looks out for her co-workers and has not had one safety issue."

In sum, Green wrote, "The members of the Paint Shop feel Becky is deserving of this honor not only for the quality employee she is (and she is) but also for the quality individual Becky is. Everyone who interacts with Becky on campus comes away with a pleasurable experience. Becky's former boss had it right, 'Well, Becky is just wonderful.'"
