In the increasingly competitive world of collegiate club sports, three University teams - Nevada Boxing, Wolf Pack Rugby and Nevada Lacrosse - attained impressive program achievements during their respective seasons, including a national championship by Nevada Boxing.

Nevada Boxing

The Nevada Boxing team won the collegiate national championship, becoming the first University of Nevada squad to win the national title since 1993. In contributing to the team title, four boxers from the University won national championships in their respective weight divisions this past season.

One of those champions, Jarred Santos, was named Most Outstanding Boxer by the National Collegiate Boxing Association, the national governing body for collegiate boxing. Santos is also being recognized as the Amateur Boxer of the Year by the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. He will be recognized Aug. 8 at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, alongside Muhammad Ali, who is being inducted.

This is the third year in a row that a boxer from the University will be recognized as Amateur Boxer of the Year.

Led by Santos as the club president for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year, Nevada Boxing hopes to create more of a student-athlete experience for the team by hosting boxing events on campus.

"I want to create more awareness of the team with the student body," Santos said. "Spreading support for the team will help us grow and get more students to try out."

Wolf Pack Rugby

The Wolf Pack Rugby team is a collegiate club team competing in the Division IAA USA Rugby League.

Making it to the College Sevens Championship for the first time in 2015, Wolf Pack Rugby traveled to the University of Denver for the championship games May 23-24. Battling in the Men's Division I bracket, the team went 2-3 and ended up ranking No. 19 in the country for club rugby.

With this season's achievements, Team Captain Garren Albright believes the team has the potential to become a NCAA-recognized team for the University in the future.

In addition to participating in the Sevens competition, Wolf Pack Rugby also competes for the College Fifteens National Championships during the fall and spring. The Sevens game is a more intense and concentrated version of the traditional Fifteens game, featuring only seven players from each team rather than 15.

Nevada Lacrosse

The Nevada Lacrosse team won its first-ever Western Collegiate Lacrosse League Championship title in the Division II bracket in 2014. Their 2015 season ended during the 2015

WCLL playoffs, following a season in which they achieved an 11-2 record, the best in the program's history.

The club team will be moving to compete in Division I this upcoming season.

Club President and Co-Captain Will Clayton said, "It's a challenge, but we will definitely be able to compete."

Another first for the team comes as Alec Ledbetter, an attackman, received the Men's College Lacrosse Association's All-American award. This is the first-ever All-American award given to a player on the men's team.
