Highly decorated Nevada women’s basketball alumna up against 480 female student-athletes for impressive honor

Former Nevada women's basketball standout, Mimi Mungedi, is among 480 nominated student-athletes for this year's NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The award, which is now in its 25th year of existence, features the largest pool of nominees in its history. It honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership. Of the nominees, 207 competed in Division I, 93 competed in Division II and 180 competed in Division III athletics.

Mungedi earned a multitude of awards and recognition following her senior season at Nevada, including a selection by the Tulsa Shock in the 2015 WNBA Draft. Additionally, the 6-8 center was named the Mountain West's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year and garnered a spot on the All-Mountain West team and the league's All-Defensive team.

She finished her career with the Wolf Pack as the school's all-time leader in blocked shots (162) and set the single-season record with 74 as a senior. She set the Mountain West and school single-game record with 29 rebounds in a game in February and finished her career seventh in rebounding at Nevada. A graduate of Nevada, she was a three-time member of the Academic All-Mountain West team and is a three-time MW Scholar-Athlete.

Conferences will assess each nominee's eligibility and select up to two conference nominees. All conference nominees are forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which chooses the top-30 honorees - 10 from each division.

From the top-30, the selection committee determines the top three nominees from each division and announces the top nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced, and the top-30 honorees celebrated, at the annual award ceremony in Indianapolis on Oct. 18.
