Master's Degree Online has named the University of Nevada, Reno as one of the top 50 colleges and universities listed in its Best Masters in Finance Degree Programs for the 2013-2014 academic year. 

Considered one of the finest programs in the region, according to the website, the University's master of science degree in finance is earned through the Managerial Sciences Department in the College of Business.

Students take 30-33 credits to graduate, depending upon whether a thesis or non-thesis track is chosen. Scholarships are sometimes offered to exceptional students who display great potential in the field.

The program is designed to help students develop technical and analytical skills in finance and to acquire core conceptual knowledge to apply those skills in solving financial business problems and conducting research. 

It provides graduates with the knowledge and skills to successfully earn professional certifications including the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), the Certified Financial Manager (CFM) and the Certified Treasury Professionals (CTP).

Master's Degree Online primarily focuses on online master degree programs, but also ranks on-campus programs at traditional brick-and-mortar schools such as the University's graduate finance program.

According to Master's Degree Online, the research methodology used to determine the list included class statistics, entering student GMAT scores, graduate employment and salary data, and the expert opinion of professionals in the field. The data was then compiled and ranked to produce a comprehensive list of the best master in finance degree programs. 

Earlier in the year, U.S. News & World Report's 2013 Best Online Education Programs ranked the University's online Executive MBA as No. 55 in the Best Online Graduate Business Programs category. BusinessWeek ranked the University's part-time MBA as No. 4 in the country in its 2011 Top Part-Time MBA Programs report.

Last fall, U.S. News & World Report published its annual issue ranking the best colleges, and the College of Business was ranked among the best undergraduate business programs.
