Caleb Cage, director of Nevada Office of Veterans Services, addresses ROTC cadets

Caleb Cage, executive director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services and co-author of the book "The Gods of Diyala: Transfer of Command in Iraq," recently addressed the University of Nevada, Reno Army ROTC cadets on leadership and his experiences as an Army officer which included multiple combat tours in Iraq.

DJ Jimerson, a senior majoring in biology, commented, "... one of the most poignant lessons that was reinforced by Mr. Cage was that leaders owe it to their subordinates to provide superior leadership and in return they can have confidence and rely on their subordinates to accomplish the mission."

Caleb has a wealth of experience and provided real-world examples that challenged the cadets to exercise their critical thinking skills on how to effectively lead," said Col. Michael Minaudo, chair of the University's Military Science Department.  "Many of the cadets that listened to Caleb will soon be graduates and Army officers. Caleb highlighted that sound leadership principles and the ability to analyze, evaluate, and create solutions to complex problems will be the cornerstone for their future success."

Cage, a native of Sparks, graduated in 2002 from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the Army until 2007. He was appointed to his current position by Gov. Brian Sandoval in July 2010.
