Collegiate bike champs come to campus

Several events, including Campus Criterium, scheduled April 14-15

Many of the West Coast's top cyclists, including members of the University of Nevada, Reno cycling team, are scheduled to compete this weekend (April 14-15) during the Western Collegiate Cycling Conference Championships in events on the University campus and northern Nevada.

The "Campus Criterium" event will be held on Saturday, April 14 near the Savitt Medical Science Building and Mackay Stadium. USA cycling racing begins at 8 a.m., with collegiate races to begin at 1 p.m. with the final race to start at 5 p.m. Registration opens at 7 a.m.

Road races will be held on both Saturday and Sunday, April 15.

The University of Nevada, Reno Cold Springs Team Time Trial event will be held on a seven-mile loop around Cold Springs Lake on Saturday, April 14. Races begin at 9 a.m. To get to the Team Time Trial event, take I-580/US-395 North from Reno to exit 80, Reno Park Blvd./Cold Springs. Turn left and cross the freeway. Parking will be available in the dirt lot on the left.

On Sunday, April 15, the Red Rock Road Race will be held. Races ranging from 44 miles to 88 miles will be held, with the first event slated to begin at 8 a.m. To get to Red Rock, head north on I-580/US-395 for about 10 miles to Red Rock Road Exit (Exit 78). Head right about three miles through Silver Knolls to the volunteer fire station.
