Tickets to Colorblind: Nevada Against Racism with Tim Wise are going fast. Although the event is free, a ticket is required for entry and must be picked up in advance. The event, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 29 in the Ballrooms of the Joe Crowley Student Union, is a collaborative effort of the Washoe County School District and the Center for Student Cultural Diversity at the University of Nevada, Reno.

“This event provides a unique opportunity to experience a critical examination of race in America,” said Reg Chhen Stewart, director of the University’s Center for Student Cultural Diversity and newly named director of diversity initiatives. “While the topic can be challenging, it is central to our diversity efforts. We hope students, faculty, campus administrators and the community alike will all turn out to hear this important keynote address.”

Tim Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States. Recently named one of “25 Visionaries Who Are Changing Your World,” by Utne Reader, Wise has spoken in 49 states, on over 600 college campuses and to community groups across the nation. He has also lectured internationally in Canada and Bermuda on issues of comparative racism, race and education, racism and religion, and racism in the labor market.

Wise is the author of five books, including White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son; Affirmative Action: Racial Preference in Black and White; Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist Reflections From an Angry White Male; Between Barack and a Hard Place: Racism and White Denial in the Age of Obama, and his latest, Colorblind: The Rise of Post-Racial Politics and the Retreat from Racial Equity.

Doors for the event open at 6:15 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m. Superintendent Heath Morrison will welcome attendees. Self-paid parking is available in the West Stadium Parking Complex, north of Lawlor Events Center.
