David Lupan, 39-year Med School professor, administrator, passes away

A memorial service to remember and honor David Lupan, senior associate dean of basic science and research of the University of Nevada School of Medicine, has been scheduled for Sunday, July 1 at 3 p.m. in the 4th Floor Ballroom of the Joe Crowley Student Union.

Lupan passed away on June 23. He joined the University of Nevada School of Medicine as an assistant professor in 1973, was promoted to professor in 1989, and served for the past 10 years as senior associate dean for basic science and research.

He was an expert in bacteriology and mycology and mechanisms of resistance to antimicrobials.  In a campus email, Provost Heather Hardy noted, "Dr. Lupan represented the best in academic leadership, and gave 39 years of extraordinary service in a distinguished career as a microbiologist, teacher and academic leader to this institution and this community. He will be sorely missed by his colleagues, staff and students, but most of all by his family and friends."

Donations may be made to a memorial fund that has been established in David's name at: UNR Foundation, David Lupan - School of Medicine Fund, Mail Stop 0530, University of Nevada School of Medicine, Reno, NV 89557-0530, or by calling (775) 682-7341.
